Dear friends,
February is an exciting time for us to begin swimming with some wonderful repertoire-- particularly our Brahms motet, our Mozart REQUIEM, and the dramatic FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT by Ruth Watson Henderson. Yesterday, we began our work on pgs. 2-4 of the Brahms motet and took a peek at the "Sanctus" and "Hostias" from the Mozart. It is time, also, for some homework. You will find annotations to copy into your Mozart scores on the Mozart REQUIEM page of our blog. http://firstplymouthchoir. blogspot.com/p/darkness-to- light.html It is important that everyone have all markings for all movements completed by February 23rd. Previously, it is important that you have copied markings for "Sanctus" and "Hostias" by February 13. The time you spend working this out on your own will save us a wealth of valuable rehearsal time.
On your choir calendars, you will also note a few other opportunities to learn more about this piece:
Latin diction classes will be offered from 6:45-7:10 on February 23 and March 2
A class on the history and content of the Mozart REQUIEM will be offered on Tuesday, March 29 from 7-8:30 (Please note this date has changed to avoid a conflict with the Bishop Spong lecture on March 28)
Let's get our Mozart homework done soon because Jeremy will undoubtedly have some stuff for us to study in the Ruth Watson Henderson piece before long.
Thank you for the many ways you continue to contribute to the music ministry of our church and to the outreach of Abendmusik.
Grace and peace,
TT
